The Catchings Insurance Agency, located at 945 North State Street in Jackson, Mississippi 39207, offers a panoramic view of insurance benefits. ABOUT HOWARD CATCHINGS
Howard Catchings was born and educated in Mississippi and has lived there all his life. After graduation from high school, he went to Jackson State University, and holds Bachelor's and Master's degrees from that institution.
He has been in the insurance business for over 30 years, and is general agent with Transamerica Life Insurance Company. He has his own agency -- Catchings Insurance Agency -- with a staff of twenty-four people. Prior to going into the insurance business, he was a teacher in the Jackson Public School District.

Howard is actively involved in various civic and professional organizations as either a board member or a committee member. He has served as Chairman of the Board of the Metro Jackson Chamber of Commerce, Junior Achievement of Mississippi, and First American Bank. He is a past president of the Mississippi Association of Life Underwriters (now NAIFA-Mississippi) and the Jackson General Agents Managers Association, as well as a board member of the Jackson Association of Life Underwriters (Jackson-NAIFA). He served on NAIFA committees, GAMA committees, and MDRT committees, and was a board member of GAMA International. He is presently a member of the Nominations Committee of NAIFA. A long-time member of MDRT, he has been a member of the Court of the Table for 25 years and the Top of the Table for 17 years. He is also serving his second term on the Life Insurance and Health Foundation for Education (LIFE) Board of Directors. He serves on the MDRT Top of the Table Advisory Board.
Howard has served on the General Agent's Advisory Board of Transamerica Life insurance Company and has been a member of the President's Cabinet several times. He was recently on the Advisory Council of Standard & Poor's Rating Company.
Howard has received numerous awards, including Mississippi's Citizen of the Year, Volunteer of the Year, Mississippi Insurance Hall of Fame, Jackson Insurance Hall of Fame, Mississippi Business Hall of Fame, and his agency has been named Minority Firm of the Year and Business and Industry Super Achiever.
He has had several articles published in industry magazines, such as the LIFE INSURANCE SELLING magazine, LAN magazine, and ROUND THE TABLE. He was also one of twelve in the book, The Greatest Insurance Stories Ever Told, by Russ Merck and published by MDRT. Howard often speaks at industry association meetings in Mississippi and in various other states. He spoke at the MDRT Day in the Bahamas in 2004.
Howard is active in his church. He and his wife are the parents of four children, with six grandchildren.
